Joan Hackett

Joan Ann Hackett (* March 1, 1934 in New York City, New York, † October 8, 1983 in Encino, California ) was an American actress.

Life

Hackett was born in New York City and was of Irish- Italian descent. According to their origin, she was raised Roman Catholic and attended Catholic -run schools.

Her acting debut was in 1959 in the role of Gail Prentiss in the television series Young Doctor Malone. In 1961 she won an Obie Award for best acting performance in the play Call Me by My Rightful Name.

In 1962, she played the lead role in the Twilight Zone episode A Piano in the House. In 1966, she had in the movie The Clique by Sidney Lumet one of the lead roles alongside Candice Bergen, Larry Hagman, Richard Mulligan and Joanna Pettet. One of her most famous roles was that of Catherine Allen in the 1968 rotated Western Will Penny ( Eng.: The Daring ) with Charlton Heston. 1969 Hackett played in the Western comedy Support Your Local Sheriff times Help! along with James Garner. After that, they played primarily in television films and series with.

From 1967 to 1973 she was married to actor Richard Mulligan.

In 1982 she was nominated for her performance in the film Only When I Laugh, one of her last films, which won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. 1983 Hackett died on ovarian cancer in Encino.
