Joaquín Albarrán

Joaquín María Albarrán y Domínguez ( born May 9, 1860 in Sagua La Grande, Cuba, † January 17, 1912 in Paris) was a Cuban urologist.

Life

1878 Joaquin Albarrán went to Paris, where he studied under many renowned doctors and worked. After Albarráns assessment of the anatomist Louis -Antoine Ranvier (1835-1922) and Jean Casimir Félix Guyon of Urology (1831-1920) had a major influence his career. In 1906, he was the successor of Guyon as Director of the Urology Clinic at the " Hôpital Necker " in the 15th arrondissement in Paris.

In the early days of his career Albarrán dealt with microbiology and histopathology, later moving to urology, for whose development he made ​​major contributions. He was the first doctor who performed a perineal prostatectomy in France. He is the invention of a device for controlling a catheter at the Cystoskopspitze for catheterization of the ureters due to. Albarrán was three times awarded the Goddard Price and 1912, nominated for the Nobel Prize.
