Joaquín Guzmán Loera

Joaquín Guzmán Loera ( El Chapo also; * December 25, 1954 or April 4, 1957 in La Tuna, District Badiraguato, Sinaloa ) was the supreme head of the Sinaloa Cartel, a Mexican drug cartel. He was up to his arrest on 22 February 2014 at the most wanted drug lords in Mexico and the United States.

Life

Guzman was born on a ranch and has six siblings. His father was a rancher.

The early 1980s he established himself as Chief of Logistics in Sinaloa cartel. Since at least the late 1990s he runs the cartel along with Ismael Zambada García.

He was arrested on 9 June 1993 in Guatemala, delivered to Mexico and sentenced to 20 years and nine months in prison. On 19 January 2001 he managed an escape from the high security prison in the state of Jalisco. A guard opened his cell door and Guzman left the premises in a laundry truck.

Other sources claim, however, Guzmán had closed a deal with then- Mexican President Vicente Fox. Vicente Fox, who was in a financial squeeze at the time, to $ 20 million of Guzmán, have for its freedom receive.
