Joe Haymes

Lawrence Joseph "Joe" Haymes ( born February 10, 1907 in Marshfield, Missouri, † July 10, 1964 in Dallas, Texas) was an American jazz arranger, pianist and bandleader.

Life and work

Joe Haymes grew up in Springfield (Missouri ); where he attended Greenwood Laboratory School and was a drummer in the local Boy Scout band; as a teenager he learned the piano. After moving to the Drury College in 1926, he played locally with its own dance band before he was hired in 1928 after leaving school by Ted Weems as an arranger. Haymes arranged for him, inter alia, the hit " Piccolo Pete ". Haymes then founded in 1930 in Tulsa own band in 1932 and moved with her to New York City. This year the Haymes orchestra was considered one of the hottest dance bands in the country, with a special talent for jazz novelties; There were recording sessions for all major labels such as Victor Records, Columbia Records, Bluebird Records.
