Joey Jones

Joseph Patrick Jones ( born March 4, 1955 in Llandudno, Wales ) is a former Welsh footballer.

Life and career

The Welsh began his playing career at the Welsh club Wrexham AFC. During this time he was also convened four times in the U-23 selection of Wales. In 1975 he moved for the equivalent of about € 162,000 for Liverpool, where the defender celebrated his greatest successes. With the Reds, he twice won the English championship, once the UEFA Cup and was the first Masters Cup victory of Liverpool a member of the team. In 1978 he came back to the AFC Wrexham. The Welshman paid € 308,000 for Jones, what's club record to this day. In 1982 he tried again in England. The defender signed for Chelsea FC, with whom in 1984 he managed to climb to the highest English league. Despite initial booing the Blues fans he was in 1983 awarded the best Chelsea player of the year. After 91 games and two goals for Chelsea, he transferred in 1985 to Huddersfield Town. For the Terriers, he remained for two more years, then return to its regular club AFC Wrexham. Internationally, he played 72 times for the Welsh national football team, scoring three goals. He made his debut in 1975 against Austria. Jones finished his playing career at Wrexham in 1992. Jones had to undergo a heart operation in 2002. Until his surgery he was a youth coach at "his" AFC Wrexham. In 2005 he brought his autobiography Oh Joey, Joey! addition. Furthermore, the Welshman was elected by the Liverpool fans of the 100 best Liverpool players of all time.
