Johann Friedrich Abegg

Johann Friedrich Abegg ( born November 30, 1765 in Roxheim, † December 16, 1840 in Heidelberg ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Abegg was born into a family with many children preacher. 1786, he became a candidate of the reformed preaching ministry and worked as a teacher at the high school of the city of Heidelberg from 1789 to 1794, since 1791 as an associate professor of classical philology at the University of Heidelberg. In 1794 he changed his profession and was practical clergyman, first in Boxberg, then from 1799 in glues. In 1808 he took a position in Heidelberg at the St. Peter's Church, in 1814 he moved to the Holy Ghost Church. He was also extraordinary member of the Grand Duke of Baden, Upper Church Council since 1807. In 1819 he was appointed by the theological faculty of Heidelberg University as a full professor of practical theology and a doctorate.

Abegg worked all his life as a practical theologian and saw his teaching at a secondary occupation. Also exist except for a few printed sermons and a travel diary from 1798 no writings by him.
