Johann Gottfried Ebel

Johann Gottfried Ebel ( born October 6, 1764 in Züllichau, today Sulechów, Poland, † October 8, 1830 in Zurich ) was a geographical writer.

He studied in Frankfurt ( Oder), Vienna and Zurich, then made a trip to Switzerland and settled in 1792 as a physician in Frankfurt, where he to visit his well-known work instructions, in the most useful and most enjoyable way to Switzerland ( Zurich 1793), the first good travel guide for Switzerland, completed.

Displaced by the unrest of the French Revolutionary War in 1796 from Frankfurt, he lived as an attaché at the embassy Frankfurt to Paris, returned from there in 1802 and moved back to Frankfurt in 1810 to Zurich, where he died on 8 October 1830.
