Johann Samuel Eduard d'Alton

Johann Samuel Eduard d' Alton ( born July 17, 1803 in Sankt Goar, † July 25, 1854 in Halle ( Saale) ) was a German anatomist.

Johann Samuel Eduard d' Alton studied at the University of Bonn Medical and went in 1827 to Paris. In the same year he became professor of anatomy at the Berlin Academy of Arts. In 1833 he became an associate professor at the University, in 1834 professor of anatomy in Halle ( Saale). In 1838 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina. His father Joseph Eduard d' Alton was also an anatomist.

  • The fossil Gavial of Boll in Württemberg ( with Hermann Burmeister ) (Hall 1854).
  • He also began the continuation of his father's " Comparative Osteology " and delivered with Friedrich Schlemm a work on the nervous system of the fish.
