Johann Schnitzler

Johann Schnitzler ( born April 10, 1835 in Gross- Kanizsa, † May 2, 1893 in Vienna) was an Austrian physician ( laryngologist ) and high school teachers. He was the father of Arthur Schnitzler.

Life

Johann Schnitzler, son of a poor carpenter's studied at the universities of Budapest and Vienna medicine and in 1860 received his doctorate to the Dr. med. 1863-67 he worked as an assistant to Johann von Oppolzer and habilitated in 1864 for percussion and auscultation as well as for diseases of the respiratory and circulatory organs. 1872 Schnitzler was a co-founder of the General Policlinic Vienna Head of laryngological department and 1884 medical director of the hospital and remained so even after the completion of the Policlinico Hospital belonging, planned by Andreas Streit Neugebäudes ( Marianne alley 10/Höfergassse 1, Vienna - Alsergrund ), in his opening Archduke Rainer on December 30, 1892, he delivered the speech.

1878 Schnitzler was the tit. Associate Professor, 1880 ( unpaid ) Associate Professor, appointed to the University of Vienna. The pioneer of modern laryngology and internationally recognized larynx specialist authored over 150 articles and was a particularly sought-after in stage circles physician who thus brought his son Arthur in early exposure to theater. Adolf of sun valley, Charlotte Wolter, and many of the Court Opera singer settled on Arthur Schnitzler treat the mother's side his grandfather, the theater doctor [note 1] Philipp Markbreiter, served as patients.

1860-86 he served as editor of the Wiener Medizinal-Halle/Wiener medical press with the supplement clinic in Vienna, from 1887 as chief editor of the International Clinical Observations and editor of the supplement Clinical and time issues.

He was married to Louise Ludovica Markbreiter (1840-1911), daughter of the distinguished Jewish physician ( Schnitzler and editorial colleagues) Philipp Markbreiter ( 1811-1892 ) [Note 2] and his wife Amalia Schey ( 1815-1884 ). With her he had four children; eldest son was Arthur Schnitzler ( 1863-1931 ). Joseph Emil died shortly after his birth, on 26 March 1864. Julius Schnitzler ( 1865-1939 ) was also a doctor and university professor. The daughter Gisela (1867-1953) married Markus Hajek ( 1861-1941 ).

Details of his life used his son in the play Professor Bernhardi.

His grave is located in Vienna's Central Cemetery ( Israelite Department, Gate 1, group 5 b, row 35, No. 83), in which his late wife Louise ( 1840-1911 ) was buried.
