Johannes Brinkman

Johannes Andreas Brinkman ( born March 22, 1902 in Rotterdam, Holland, † May 6, 1949 ) was a Dutch architect.

Life

Brinkman studied in Delft and in 1925 took over his father Michiel Brinkman office. There Leendert van der Vlugt was already previously been active, with whom he entered into a partnership until 1936. The partners initially geared towards the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, but then created 1926-1930 with the Van Nelle factory in Rotterdam, one of the most famous buildings of the International Style. The functionalist Mart Stam, who was there working for them as a site manager should reject this construction as to style emphasizes. The buildings for the Theosophists in Amsterdam (1927 ) and for the Krishnamurti Ommen (1930 ) show the interest of the partners in spiritual tasks. With Willem van Tijen they built in 1934 Bergpolder Flats in Rotterdam: one of the few built Minimal housing projects before the Second World War and as Gallery Apartments groundbreaking for the Dutch housing after 1945 These buildings are more material than the previously developed..
