Johannes Wallmann (theologian)

Johannes Wallmann ( born May 21, 1930 in Erfurt ) is a German theologian and emeritus professor of church history at the Ruhr- University Bochum.

Life

After studying philosophy and Protestant theology in Berlin and Tübingen, he received his doctorate in 1961 with Gerhard Ebeling in Zurich, habilitated in 1968 in Tübingen and in 1971 full professor of Church History, Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Ruhr- University Bochum, until he retired in 1995. He is a member of the North Rhine- Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and since 2002 honorary professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin. His research focus was, next to the Reformation, the history of Lutheran Orthodoxy and Pietism. A long-standing project was the edition of Philipp Jakob Spener's letters.
