John A. Quackenbush

John Adam Quackenbush (* October 15, 1828 in Schaghticoke, New York, † May 11, 1908 ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Adam Quackenbush attended district schools and the local academy in Stillwater. Then he worked in agriculture, but also pursued lumber business. In 1860 he was supervisor in Schaghticoke - a position which he held until 1862. He was 1862 Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Rensselaer County. In addition, he sat in 1862 in the New York State Assembly. Between 1873 and 1876 he was sheriff in Rensselaer County. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1888 for the 51st Congress Quackenbush was in the 18th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward W. Greenman on March 4, 1889. He was re-elected once. In 1892 he suffered in his re-election bid a defeat and retired after March 3, 1893 the Congress of.

After his time Congress, he worked in agriculture. On May 11, 1908, he died in Schaghticoke and then he was buried at the city cemetery.
