John August

John August (* August 4, 1970 in Boulder, Colorado as John Meise ) is an American journalist and screenwriter.

Life

After graduating in journalism from Drake University in Iowa, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a screenwriter. He graduated from the School of Cinema-Television at USC under the direction of Peter Stark.

His breakthrough came with the script to Go, that was acquired by Columbia Pictures and implemented under the direction of Doug Liman. This was followed by the filming of the series 3 Charlie's Angels and Titan AE, and some unnamed "re- writes " in various films.

After he had read the novel Big Fish by Daniel Wallace, he asked Columbia Pictures to secure him the movie rights to it. With the adaptation him and the director Tim Burton succeeded not only successful, but also for the author of the story satisfactory film. John August continued his collaboration with Tim Burton for the movie Corpse Bride - continued Corpse Bride and the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In 2012, another collaboration with Burton in the horror comedy Dark Shadows followed.

John August also wrote the screenplay for the years deferred remake of Barbarella and is currently working for a studio on a script for a new Tarzan movie.
