John Baptist Pitaval

John Baptist Pitaval ( born February 10, 1858 in Saint -Genis -Terre Noire, France, † May 23, 1928 ) was Archbishop of Santa Fe.

Life

John Baptist Pitaval studied Catholic theology in Lyon and came in 1881 in the United States. He received on 24 December 1881 by the Bishop of Denver, Joseph Projectus Machebeuf, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On May 14, 1902, he was named Pope Leo XIII. titular bishop of Sora and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Santa Fe. The Archbishop of Santa Fe, Peter Bourgade, donated to him on July 25th of that year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Denver, Nicholas Chrysostom Matz, and the Bishop of Tucson, Henry Regis Granjon.

On February 1, 1909, Pope Pius X appointed Archbishop of Santa Fe. John Baptist Pitaval occurred on July 29, 1918 back as Archbishop of Santa Fe and was appointed Titular Archbishop of Amida.
