John Blair, Jr.

John Blair Jr. ( * 1732 in Williamsburg, Virginia; † August 31, 1800 ) was an American lawyer and politician and from 1789 to 1795 Supreme Court of the United States.

He was born to a prominent family in Virginia. His father had temporarily -executive held the office of governor. his great-uncle had the College of William and Mary founded, which also Blair himself visited to 1754 until a year he went to England to study at the Middle Temple. After the French and Indian War, he was in 1766 in the House of Burgesses, the lower house of the Parliament of Virginia, was elected. 1771 to 1775 he was assistant Parliament at the Royal Governor's Council.

When the Revolution began, he was involved in the creation of the Constitution of Virginia. In 1777 he was elected by Parliament for a judge at the newly established Virginia General Court and took over the chairmanship in 1779.

In 1787 he was one of the delegates of the Philadelphia Convention, and two years later was nominated on 24 September 1789 by George Washington as a Supreme Court judge. Two days later, the Senate confirmed his nomination. 1795 Blair resigned for health reasons.

John Blair Jr. was a member of the Federation of Masons and held from 1778 to 1784 the office of Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Virginia.
