John Cacavas

John Cacavas ( born August 13, 1930 in Aberdeen, South Dakota; † January 28, 2014 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an American composer, arranger and conductor.

Life

Cacavas studied music at Northwestern University and at the composer Robert Delaney. During this time he worked as an arranger and conductor in several music ensembles. After graduating, he served in the United States Army. He was renowned as an arranger of the United States Army Band in Washington, DC active. After his service, he moved to New York City where he worked as assistant conductor of Alfredo Antonini and Morton Gould at CBS.

With his move to London in the early 1970s to Cacavas could with music to express horror, Dracula needs fresh blood and giants in the sky to establish itself as a film composer. He became better known among many television movies, above all, for crime television series Kojak - Kojak, for which he wrote the music of 114 episodes between 1973 and 1978. For his music of the episode A Question of Answers, he was nominated for an Emmy in 1976.

Cacavas lived with his wife, Bonnie, a poet, social worker and author, both in Beverly Hills and London. The couple had three children together.
