John Cornyn

John Cornyn ( born February 2, 1952 in Houston, Texas ) is an American politician of the Republican Party. Since 2 December 2002 it represents the state of Texas in the U.S. Senate.

Life

Cornyn was born in Houston, the son of Atholene Gale Danley and John Cornyn II. He studied for his school years at Trinity University, where he graduated in 1973. He attended St. Mary's University School of Law, where he attained his doctorate in 1977. Cornyn then worked as a judge in Texas. In 1990 he was elected as a judge of the Supreme Court of Texas, where he worked for seven years. In 1995 he received his Master of Laws from the University of Virginia School of Law. From 1999 to 2002 he held the office of Attorney General of Texas.

In November 2002, Cornyn was elected as successor to Phil Gramm for U.S. Senator for Texas. With 54.7 percent of the vote he won against the former mayor of Dallas, Ron Kirk, by. Six years later he succeeded with a share of 54.8 percent of the vote against the re-election Rick Noriega. In the Senate, he belongs to the conservative wing of the Republican Party. John Cornyn lives in Austin and is married to Sandy Cornyn. Together they have two children. He is a member of the Churches of Christ.
