John D. Lawson

John Daniel Lawson ( born February 18, 1816 in Montgomery, New York, † January 24, 1896 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Daniel Lawson was born one year after the end of the British - American War in Montgomery and grew up there. During this time he attended public schools. He then moved to New York City where he worked as a clerk ( clerk ) in a haberdashery (dry -goods store). During the year 1843 he began commercial transactions pursue. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. He was a delegate for 30 years at every Republican State, County and District Convention in part and at every Republican National Convention 1868-1892. In the congressional elections of 1872 he was in the eighth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James Brooks on March 4, 1873. Two years later he suffered in his re-election bid a defeat and retired after the March 3, 1895 from the Congress of. Then he went back to his previous transactions. He died on January 24, 1896 in New York City and was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
