John DeCuir

John DeCuir ( born June 4, 1918 in San Francisco, California, † 29 October 1991 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American production designer and art director.

Life

John DeCuir received after completing his education at the Chouinard Art School in the late 1930s a job at Universal Studios and worked as an art director in the mid- 1940s. In 1949 he moved to 20th Century Fox. His work has been nominated eleven times for an Oscar. Three times he was awarded the prize, the respective films were The King and I, Cleopatra and Hello, Dolly!. He worked only sporadically for television, in 1978, he was awarded for the television production Ziegfeld: The Man and His Women Emmy. His last film was Ghostbusters - Ghostbusters in 1984.

His son John DeCuir Jr. works as a production designer and worked, among others, Top Gun.
