John Egerton (bishop)
John Egerton ( born November 30, 1721 † June 18, 1787 ) was an Anglican bishop of the Church of England.
Egerton was the eldest son of the Bishop of Hereford Henry Egerton, in turn, was a younger son of John Egerton, 3rd Earl of Bridgewater. Egerton had been put under his father as Dean of Hereford and later from 1756 to 1768 Bishop of Bangor, 1768-71 Bishop of Lichfield and from 1771 until his death Bishop of Durham. On November 21, 1748 he married his cousin Lady Anne Grey ( a daughter and co-heiress of Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Kent), they had three children together:
- Amelia (1751-1809), married to Sir Abraham Hume, 2nd Baronet.
- John William (1753-1823), later 7th Earl of Bridgewater
- Francis Henry (1756-1829), later 8th Earl of Bridgewater
Lady Anne died in 1780, on March 31, 1782 married Mary Egerton Boughton, a sister of Sir Edward Boughton.
