John Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach

Johann Friedrich von Brandenburg -Ansbach (* October 18, 1654 in Ansbach, † March 22, 1686 in Ansbach ) was Margrave of Ansbach Frankish principality from 1667 to 1686.

Life

Johann Friedrich was the eldest son of the Margrave Albrecht of Brandenburg -Ansbach (1620-1667) from his second marriage with Sophie Margarete (1634-1664), daughter of Count Joachim Ernst of Oettingen - Oettingen. When he took his inheritance after his father's death in 1667, he was still a minor, so first a regency headed by the Elector Frederick William of Brandenburg took over the regency in his principality. Johann Friedrich was educated at the Universities of Strasbourg and Geneva, and then undertook his Grand Tour, among others, to France.

Only when he had come of age in 1672, he took the reins of the government in Brandenburg- Ansbach. Johann Friedrich was considered tolerant and amiable prince, but was a little ambitious and made dependent on the councils. He continued his father's policy habsburg friendly and took in Ansbach and Schwabach French emigrants, which led to an economic revival of the country. His musical proclivities, especially for opera and ballet, as well as his love pomp led to financial difficulties.

Johann Friedrich died 31- year of smallpox and was buried in the Ansbacher Gumbertuskirche.

Johann Friedrich married his first wife, on February 5, 1672 in Durlach Johanna Elisabeth ( 1651-1680 ), daughter of Margrave Friedrich VI. of Baden, with whom he had the following children:

His second wife was born on November 4, 1681 in Eisenach Eleonore ( 1662-1696 ), daughter of Duke Johann Georg I of Saxe- Eisenach, with whom he had the following children:
