John Günther I, Count of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen

Johann Günther I of Schwarzburg- Sondershausen, also known as: Hans Günther ( born December 20 1532 Special Hausen, † October 28, 1586 in Arnstadt ) was since 1552 Regent County Schwarzburg and since 1571 Graf von Schwarzburg- Sondershausen. He is the founder of the line Black -Sonderhausen.

Life

Johann Günther was a son of Count Günther XL. of Schwarzburg (1499-1552), which " the rich " or "the one with the fat Maule " was called, and his wife Countess Elisabeth ( † May 14, 1572 ), a daughter of Count Philipp of Isenburg - Büdingen to Ronneburg.

Provided in his youth catholic and for a church career, Johann Günther converted after the death of his father to the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He lived temporarily in the court of the Elector Maurice of Saxony and struggled with this against Margrave Albrecht of Brandenburg- Kulmbach, where he was also involved in the Battle of Sievershausen. With his eldest brother Günther XLI. he had fought in the Netherlands in 1583 and distinguished himself in the capture of Saint- Quentin.

After his brothers Günther XLI. of Schwarzburg- Arnstadt in 1583 and Wilhelm von Schwarzburg- Frankenhausen 1597 without descendants had died, the heirs of Johann Günther shared with his brother Albrecht VII of Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt, set in Stadtilmer agreement dated November 21, 1599, the Schwarzenburgerland areas.
