John James Shepherd

John James Shepherd ( born June 2, 1884 in Bicknor, † July 9, 1954 in Aston, Herefordshire ) was a British athlete who at three Olympic Games won three medals in the tug of war 1908-1920.

At the Olympic Games 1908 in London Shepherd won by the British team gold medal in the tug of war competition. The silver and the bronze medal also went to British teams. Like all team members of all three British teams Shepherd worked as a police officer.

Shepherd's team was called London City Police. In the final of the competition on 18 July 1908, the London City Police slammed the policy as Liverpool team -titled second-placed team.

As one of only three Tauziehern the winning team from 1908 Shepherd was in his Olympic career total of three medals in this competition win.

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 failed to defend the title of the London City Police. Had four years earlier yet registered seven teams to the competition, five of which also competed ultimately published in Stockholm ultimately only two of the reported five teams. On July 8, 1912, there was thus the only competition, which also represented the final. Here Shepherds London City Police were subject to the Swedish opponents and took silver.

In the tug of war competition at the Summer Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 occurred in five teams. In the final on August 19, 1920 Shepherd and this time the only British team decided to fight for the gold medal for himself. The Netherlands were subject to two rounds.
