John Joseph Williams

John Joseph Williams ( * April 27, 1822 in Boston, USA, † August 30, 1907 ibid ) was Archbishop of Boston.

Life

John Joseph Williams received on May 17, 1845 Sacrament of Holy Orders. Williams was curate at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. From 1855 to 1857 he was rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. 1857 John Joseph Williams Vicar General of the Diocese of Boston.

On January 9, 1866, he was named by Pope Pius IX. Titular Bishop of Tripoli in Phoenicia and ordered him Coadjutor Bishop of Boston. John Joseph Williams on 13 February 1866 in succession to the late John Bernard Fitzpatrick Bishop of Boston. The Archbishop of New York, John McCloskey, donated to him on March 11 of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Albany, John Joseph Conroy, and the Bishop of Brooklyn, John Loughlin.
