John Jympson

John Jympson ( born September 16, 1930 in London, † June 3, 2003 ibid ) was a British cutter.

Life

Jymspson worked as an assistant editor at the end of the 1940s. He learned the craft from Michael Balcon and William Hornbeck. His father, the journalist Jympson Harman had helped him through their own contacts in the film business after Jympson had left the Dulwich College. The movie The French Mademoiselle in 1960 was his first production as a separate cutter. Until 1999 he was involved in more than 45 film and television productions. A director, with whom he collaborated on several occasions, Brian G. Hutton was. After completion of the film Mad Cows from 1999 Jympson ill from diabetes and retired from the film business.

Jymspson was originally responsible for the editing of Star Wars, but was dismissed by George Lucas to about half of the production and replaced by Paul Hirsch and Marcia Lucas, who eventually won an Oscar for Best Editing for ihe work with Richard Chew.

For his work on A Fish Called Wanda 1989 he was nominated for the British Academy Film Award for Best Editing.
