John L. Hennessy

John LeRoy Hennessy ( born 1952 ) is an American professor of electrical engineering and computer science. He is co-founder of MIPS Computer Systems Inc. since 2000 and President of Stanford University. A year before he followed Condoleeza Rice in the post of Provost of the same university. He is also a member of the board of directors of Google.

He received his bachelor's degree from Villanova University, his master's degree and his Ph.D. at Stony Brook University.

He is the author of several books about computer architecture. A Quantitative Approach with David A. Patterson, with whom he "for the ringing in of a computer architecture Revolution through research, popularization and commercialization of architectural innovations," John von Neumann Medal was awarded in 2000. Hennessey 2012 was awarded the IEEE Medal of Honor. In 2001 he received the Eckert - Mauchly Award and the 2001 Seymour Cray Award.
