John Lamont (Scottish politician)

John Lamont (born 15 April 1976) is a Scottish politician and member of the Conservative Party. John Lamont is not to be confused with the active at the same time Scottish Labour Party politician Johann Lamont.

Political career

For the first time Lamont joined the British general election, 2005 to national elections. In his constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk, he received the second highest share of votes behind the Liberal Democrats, Michael Moore, and thus failed to reach the British House of Commons. In the Scottish Parliament elections in 2007, he applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Roxburgh and Berwickshire. Lamont won the elections before the Liberal Democrats Euan Robson, who has held this position since 1999. Compared to the general election in 2005 Lamont was at the general election in 2010 its share of the vote in the constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk increase by around 5 %, but missed a second time the direct mandate. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the constituency of Roxburgh and Berwickshire was dissolved and largely replaced by the newly created constituency of Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire. In this Lamont stepped up to the parliamentary elections in 2011 and won the direct mandate before the SNP candidate Paul Wheelhouse. After the election, Lamont was appointed in Parliament Whip Conservative Group.
