John Lees (musician)

John Lee ( born January 13, 1947 in Oldham, Lancashire ) is a British singer, songwriter, composer and guitarist, best known as the founder and member of the British progressive rock band Barclay James Harvest ( BJH ).

Biography

Barclay James Harvest ( BJH )

Lee started playing guitar at the age of 14 years. While studying at the Oldham School Of Art he met in 1964 Woolly Wolstenholme, and both founded the school band The Sorcerers from which the school band The Keepers was. Along with it, Les Holroyd and Mel Pritchard, he founded in 1966 the band The Blues Keepers, from the 1967 forerunner of the professional group Barclay James Harvest.

Usually in written by him BJH songs the first voice and acted in Holroyd's songs partly as a second voice - In their time together with Barclay James Harvest Lee sang - as according to the BJH founding member Holroyd.

John Lees' Barclay James Harvest ( JLBJH )

1998 Barclay James Harvest split up, and Lee's acts since then with other musicians, and until his death in 2010, still with Wolstenholme ( of BJH had left in 1979, but in 1998 got in again) under the name of John Lees' Barclay James Harvest ( JLBJH ) - previously called Barclay James Harvest Through the Eyes of John Lees.

Solo

In 1974 Lees' first single, " Best Of My Love." 1977 Lee published his so far only solo album, " A Major Fancy ," which appeared already recorded in 1972 and five years later; from the LP, the single " Child of the Universe" was ( a song in 1974, on the BJH album " Everyone is Everybody Else " ) decoupled. In 1999, the album including three bonus songs was first released on CD, and in 2010 it appeared as a remastered double - CD that contains the bonus material from 1999 six additional songs.

John Lees and Friends

End of April 2012 came under the name of John Lees Lees and Friends ( subtitled " Barclay James Harvest ") in the English village of Delph (Greater Manchester ) on. He was accompanied by the current JLBJH musicians and also by his son, John Joseph Lees ( Cornett ), and Monika Domone (12 -string guitar, vocals), who runs with Keith Domone the " Barclay James Harvest International Fan Club". They played six BJH classics and also with an instrumental version of "On Leave" a new JLBJH song that takes the band to date, and with "Share My Yoke " one of Joy Webb ( of The Joystrings; Salvation Army) written song.

Influence and popular songs

Among other things, Eric Clapton and The Eagles are one of Lees' musical influences.

From Lee wrote, texted, well-known BJH Songs include: " Mocking Bird ", " Child Of The Universe ", " Hymn ", " Poor Man's Moody Blues ", " Loving Is Easy " and "In Memory Of The Martyrs ".

Lee is married and has a daughter and a son, John Joseph Lees (J. J. Lee ).
