John Lipsky

John P. Lipsky ( * 1947 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa) is an American economist.

Life

Lipsky, a graduate of Wesleyan University, earned an MA and Ph.D. in economics at Stanford University.

He worked as an investment banker and worked for JP Morgan, Chase Manhattan Bank and Salomon Brothers.

Prior to his time as an investment banker Lipsky has been working a decade as an employee of the International Monetary Fund ( IMF), among others, in the period from 1978 to 1980 as the representative of the IMF in Chile.

Lipsky was from 1 September 2006 deputy head of the International Monetary Fund. On 12 May 2011 Lipsky announced his resignation from the IMF at the end of August 2011. From September to November 2011, he was Special Advisor to the Managing Director.

Lipsky led the IMF interim basis after the Managing Director Dominique Strauss -Kahn was due to private legal problems in custody and had resigned on 18 May 2011 from his office. On July 5, 2011 Christine Lagarde succeeds Strauss -Kahn.
