John Magee (congressman)

John Magee ( born September 3, 1794 in Easton, Pennsylvania, † April 5, 1868 in Watkins, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1827 and 1831 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Magee attended community schools. He served in the British -American War. In 1812 he moved to Bath in Steuben County. We chose him in 1818 to the constable - a post he held until 1820. He was then appointed sheriff in Steuben County in 1821 and 1822 regularly elected. Politically, he was a member of the Jacksonian Group.

In the congressional elections of 1826 for the 20th Congress Magee was the 28th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Timothy H. Porter on March 4, 1827. He was re-elected once. Since he gave up for reelection in 1828, then retired after March 3, 1831 from the Congress.

In 1867 he participated in the Constituent Assembly of New York as a delegate. The rest of the time he devoted himself to banking business, the railways and mining. He died on April 5, 1868 in Watkins in Schuyler County. His body was buried at Glenwood Cemetery.
