John Neville (actor)

John Neville, OBE, CM ( born May 2, 1925 in London, England; † November 19, 2011 in Toronto, Ontario ) was a British- Canadian actor in film, television and theater.

Life

John Neville studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his debut in the 1950s in the theater and on British television. First, he was frequently seen in Shakespearean roles, including Richard II; in Othello he alternated at London's Old Vic Theatre in the title role, as well as Iago with Richard Burton, with whom he was a close friend.

His international film career began only when Terry Gilliam cast him in 1988 for the role of Baron Munchausen in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Since then, Neville was frequently seen in prominent supporting roles in major productions. On television, Neville stepped in guest roles in series, so in The X-Files - The Files or Star Trek: The Next Generation, Episode attack The Descent, Part 1 in a small role as Isaac Newton.

Neville emigrated to Canada in 1972 and took Canadian citizenship. Between 1986 and 1989 he was artistic director of the Stratford Festival in Canada. He was nominated for the television production Emily of New Moon Best Actor in a dramatic role for a Gemini Award in 1999.

2006, the Order of Canada, the highest Canadian award for civilians, he was awarded.

Private life

John Neville died at the age of 86 years in Toronto, Canada. He left behind his wife Caroline Hopper and six children.
