John of Wildeshausen

John Wilde Hausen ( also John Teutonicus or John Teutonikus; * 1180 in Wildeshausen near Oldenburg, † November 4, 1252 in Strasbourg ) was Master of the Order of the Dominicans and promoted the unification of the Dominican liturgy and changes in the general chapter.

Life

John was born around 1180 in Wildeshausen in Oldenburg. Presumably, he was picked up by St. Dominic in Bologna in the Order. Since the year 1224 John Teutonicus accompanied the papal legate by Germany and entered as a crusade preacher in southern Germany in appearance. He mediated in the conflict between the Stedingern and the Archbishop of Bremen in Stedingerkrieg.
