John Osborne (politician)

John Alfred Osborne ( born May 27, 1935 in St. Peters, Montserrat, † January 2, 2011 in Boston, USA) was mont serra matic politician and Chief Minister of Montserrat.

Osborne studied at Paddington Technical College, London, civil engineer, on Mirtshals College in Denmark hydraulic engineer and at the Gardner School of Engineering in England a mechanical engineer. Then he worked from 1955 to 1958 in the British Rail as a Technical Engineer. From 1960 to 2000 Osborne was the company's director of Great Western Shipping. He was a member of the New People's Liberation Movement and was elected in March 1966 for the first time in parliament, where he remained until 2001. Between the years 1978 and 1991 and between the years 2001 and 2006, Osborne was the Chief Minister of Montserrat. In the reign of Lowell Lewis, he served as Minister of Education until 31 March 2009. Then he was from 18 June to 7 September 2009 to Acting Minister.

Osborne received an honorary doctorate from the American University of the Caribbean. The international airport of Montserrat was renamed in July 2008 to the John A. Osborne Airport.

Osborne was married and had eleven children. His hobbies included fishing and sailing.
