John Roll

John McCarthy Roll ( born February 8, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † January 8, 2011 in Casas Adobes, Arizona) was an American federal judge.

Life

Roll studied at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of the Law and the University of Virginia. 1972 to 1973 he was at the Pima County Superior Court operates. After that, he was Deputy Attorney Tucson, Arizona. From 1973 to 1980 he was a prosecutor in the Countyverwaltung of Pima County and 1980-1987 Deputy United States Attorney for Arizona.

In 1991 he was nominated U.S. President George Bush as the successor of Alfredo Chavez Marquez for the Federal District Court of Arizona. On November 22 of this year, the Senate confirmed the choice. Since 2006 he was the senior judge of the court.

On January 8, 2011 John Roll was shot in the back of the 22 -year-old Jared Lee Loughner when he tried to meet a 65 -year-old employee Giffords ' against the assassin with his body in an assassination attempt on Gabrielle Giffords in Tucsoner suburb Casas Adobes.
