John Sung

John Sung (Chinese宋 尚 节/宋 尚 节, pinyin song Shàng - jie, W.-G. Sung4 Shang4 - Chieh2; born September 27, 1901 in Hinghwa, Fujian, Imperial China, † August 18, 1944 in Beijing) was the son of a Methodist preacher and is classified in the chain of the great men of faith in China, such as Hudson Taylor, Dr Karl Gützlaff, Robert Morrison, William Chalmers Burns and Watchman Nee.

CV and spiritual career

John Sung grew up in a devout Methodist home and already came with 9 years of the Christian faith. In 1920, he went at the age of 19 years, under the disapproval of his father to America and studied at the Wesley University in Ohio and later at Ohio State University and the Union Theological Seminary. After about five years of study he completed with the following academic degrees: Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy. He was a force in the field of chemistry.

At Union Theological Seminary taught liberal scholars such as Dr. Van Dusen and Dr. HE Fosdick. Here John Sung lost his Christian faith and turned to Eastern religions and philosophies, such as Lao- tse. Then he was invited to a crusade and was deeply impressed by the power and authority of prayer or preaching. John Sung began to search in the Christian life images by this force. On New Year's Eve 1927, he experienced his awakening due to the Bible the word "God rejects the wisdom of this world " from 1 Corinthians 1:19. She was followed after some time of fighting the conversion. He then burned his liberal theological books. He was so over studying, that he was even treated for a time in a psychiatric hospital. Six months later, John Sung was to leave under the U.S. edition, released.

On board the steamer which brought him back to China, he threw all his diplomas and qualifications, except for his doctoral degree, he wanted to show his father overboard. He wanted to henceforth devote only the evangelization of China. He was then for many years one of the most powerful evangelists China fully in the revival that began in 1927. At times, were found in him faith healing. He married Yu- mei, the girl with whom he was engaged. On 18 August 1944, he died after a long illness and several operations. He was Buried by the great martyr of China Wang Ming Tao, who was his personal friend.
