John Talbot, 2nd Earl of Shrewsbury

John Talbot, 2nd Earl of Shrewsbury KG (c. 1413; † July 11, 1460 in Northampton, England) was an English nobleman and soldier.

He was the eldest son of John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury and Maud Nevill.

In 1426 he was knighted and served during the lifetime of his father, Lord Chancellor of Ireland. With the death of his father, Talbot inherited the office of Lord High Steward of Ireland. He served 1456-1458 as Lord High Treasurer and was to a member of the Order of the Garter.

John Talbot, of his life, the house of Lancaster supported, died on July 11, 1460 at the Battle of Northampton.

Marriage and children

Talbot married Elizabeth Butler, daughter of James Butler, 4th Earl of Ormond, and Joan Beauchamp. Her grandparents were William Beauchamp, 1st Baron Bergavenny, and Joan Fitzalan. Joan Fitzalan was the daughter of Richard FitzAlan, 11th Earl of Arundel and Elizabeth de Bohun.

John Talbot and Elizabeth Butler had seven children:
