John Theyer

John Theyer (* 1597 in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, † August 25, 1673 at Cooper's Hill ) was a British lawyer, writer, antiquarian and bibliophile.

Life

Theyers eponymous father died in 1631; his grandfather, Thomas Theyer of Brockworth, was born in 1597.

He attended from the age of about sixteen years, Magdalen College, Oxford, but did not complete. After three years at Magdalen College, he practiced in New York.

In 1643 he served the army of King Charles I and presented this at Merton College a copy of his work Aerio mastic, or a Vindication of the Apostolicall and gene rally received Government of the Church of Christ by Bishops. The title refers to the theologian and priest Aerius of Pontus. The book was a controversial role in Episcopalian.

Theyer also started A Friendly Debate in between Protestants and Papists ( German " a friendly debate between Protestants and Papists " ), the plant but not completed during his lifetime.

He married in 1628 Susan Theyer and had a son with her.

Theyer died on August 25, 1673 and was buried on 28 August in the cemetery of Brockworth. His valuable library of manuscripts bequeathed Theyer Richard Hart.
