John W. Murphy

John William Murphy ( born April 26, 1902 in Avoca, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, † March 28, 1962 in Scranton, Pennsylvania) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1943 and 1946 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives; then he became a federal judge.

Career

John Murphy attended the common schools and afterwards until 1926, the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School affiliated. After a subsequent law degree from the same university in 1929 and was admitted to his lawyer, he began to work in Scranton in this profession. Between 1934 and 1941 he was deputy district attorney in Lackawanna County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1942, Murphy was the eleventh electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Veronica Grace Boland on January 3, 1943. After a re-election in the tenth district of his state he could remain until his resignation on July 17, 1946 at the Congress. During this time, ended the Second World War.

John Murphy's resignation was after his appointment as a judge at the Federal District Court for the central part of the state of Pennsylvania. Since 1955, he was there Presiding Judge. This office he held until his death on 28 March 1962. Heffron with his wife Ella, he had four children.
