John Wyndham

John Wyndham ( [ windəm ]; * July 10, 1903 in Knowle, near Birmingham, † March 11, 1969 in London, actually John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris ) was a British science fiction author.

Life

John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris was born on 10 July 1903 in near Birmingham. His parents separated when he was eight years old, and he grew up in various British boarding schools. After leaving school he worked in different occupations as a farmer, graphic designer, advertising executive and employee. In 1925 he tried his hand as a writer, and in 1931 appeared in " Wonder Stories " with Worlds To Barter his first story, but under one of his many pseudonyms, John Beynon Harris. This was based heavily on HG Wells and was on par with this style.

The name John Wyndham, he used only after the Second World War. He enjoys science fiction fans at the reputation of a classic. His work is characterized by excessive reliance probably not, but he was fortunate to meet the right time, the right tone. Unlike other SF writers, his novels draw their energy from the encounter metaphysical or fantastic disasters and the behavior of the affected protagonists. Some of his works were filmed, such as The Day Of The Triffids as a flower of Secrets and The Midwich Cuckoos twice as Village of the Damned. The first version of the 1960 Wolf Rilla realized, the second from 1995 John Carpenter directed and Christopher Reeve played the lead role.

The term is Triffid received in English as a synonym for an evil or dangerous plant in the vernacular and shows which had spread Wyndham's novels and still have. Example: a famous graffito reads: " Say it with flowers - give her a Triffid! " (Say it once with flowers - give her a Triffid ).

Pseudonyms: John Beynon, John Harris, Lucas Parkes Lucas Benyon Harris and Johnson.
