Johnson Toribiong

Johnson Toribiong ( born July 22, 1946 in Airai ) was from 2009 to 2013, the President of Palau. In the presidential election on November 4, 2008, he won the runoff election with 51% against challenger Elias Camsek Chin. On 1 January 2009 he joined the successor to Tommy Remengesau. On January 17, 2013, has the official duties passed back to Remengesau.

Toribiong could obtain a degree in Juris Doctor and Master of Laws in 1973 as a course of studies in law at the University of Washington School of Law in 1972. From 2001 to 2005, he was his country's ambassador in the Republic of China.

During his tenure as President of Palau declared itself agrees to take custody of the prison camp of Guantanamo Bay Naval Base Uyghur and it has been reported the world's first protection zone for sharks on 25 September 2009
