Jon Eley

Jon Eley (Jonathan Eley, born August 19, 1984 in Solihull ) is a British Shorttracker.

Eley started for the first time at a major international event in January 2002 at the Junior World Championships in Chuncheon, where he advanced more than 1500 meter race at the semi-finals, there in fifth but failed. In October of the same year he was first used in short track speed skating World Cup in season 2002/ 03 he managed in the relay finals a total and thus a fourth. The major events that season went quite successful for Eley, among other things, he won the silver medal in the relay at the European Championships in 2003. While he could bring in a few good results in the 2003/04 season in the World Cup, he scored at the Junior World Championships 2004, two podiums on the individual routes, thus qualifying for the all-round final, where he finished fifth. Overall, he won the bronze medal in this event in the individual, with the season he left, however, already out in the heats. Also at the European Championships in Zoetermeer he cut off neatly. At the World Cup, he missed the other hand, in every race in the final.

Even the World Cup 2004/ 05 ended like the previous without the final in individual races, but Eley reached thanks to consistently good results eighth place in the overall World Cup and the ninth in the 500 -meter World Cup discipline. Without finals, but after all, by reaching the 500 -meter semi-final at the World Championships, he finished the major events of 2005. Equal in second World Cup stop of the season 2005/ 06 succeeded Eley fourth place on the sprint distance 500 meters, then he could these not repeat surprising success and ultimately placed in twelfth place in the overall World Cup. Also at the European Championship 2006, he again showed good performance. Eley, he was nominated as one of four British Short trackers for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. There he ran the 1000 and the 500 meters, over the latter distance, he managed the victory in the B final and so the fifth rank.

In the season 2006/ 07 Eley won surprisingly even in a World Cup race on the 500 - meter track in Heerenveen, at that World Cup but started not many favorites. Also in Heerenveen Eley is placed on the fifth over 1000 meters. Thanks to its consistently good results he achieved second place overall in the 500 -meter World Cup. The major events in 2007, however, proceeded relatively unsuccessful and no finals for him. During the World Cup 2007 /08 Eley definitively established in the world rankings after he was with another podium rank seventh in the 500-meter World Cup discipline. Even with the season he reached a third place. Finishing fourth in singles and second in the relay at the 2008 European Championships in Ventspils, he confirmed his good performance even at the major events, he also won the season the bronze medal at the 2008 World Championship. In short track speed skating World Cup 2008/ 09 managed Eley not make the finals in an individual, but a third place in the relay.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 he finished third in the final of the 500 m in seventh place. In the 2014 World Cup he won in Montreal in the relay bronze.
