Jonas Gardell
Jonas Lars Holger Gardell ( born November 2, 1963 in Enebyberg, community Danderyd, Sweden) is a Swedish writer, screenwriter, actor, comedian and singer.
Life
Gardell grew up in Enebyberg north of Stockholm and has two other siblings. His parents, their second youngest child he was and who worked as a psychologist, divorced during his childhood. As a 18- year-old he competed at a drama school, but when he learned that he was to be the 500th there, which should for " Hamlet" audition, he withdrew his application and tried to as artists. So he opened an art gallery, but had moderate success with the public. He began to write poems, stories and novels from now also. In 1985 he published his first novel Passionsspelet. In 1989 his first play Lena och Percy prairie dog on the stage and he went with composer Kim HEDAS on tour.
In 1995 he wrote the screenplay for his first feature film, boarding Oscar. Directed by Susanne Bier. The film is about a family that travels to the coast on holiday. The father falls in love with the campsite guard and leaves his Familie.Pensionat Oskar won in the fall of 1995, the major critics prize at the Montreal World Film Festival, Gardell won the Swedish Film Award " Guldbagge " for the best manuscript.
Jonas Gardell lives with the Finnish-Swedish writer and presenter Mark Levengood in a registered civil partnership. Gardell grew up in a Baptist church and Christian faith.
Literary work
Jonas Gardell published works in a variety of literary genres: novels, short stories, poems, plays and screenplays. One of the main themes of his work is the exploration of homosexuality and its acceptance in society. Gardells debut novel about Passionsspelet deals with the difficulties to be able to be a homosexual who you are, and to be accepted by others, but also from themselves.
In 1992 he published the novel A comedian is growing up in Sweden from the successful TV series emerged.
Gardells works have been translated into numerous languages , including English, French, German, Russian and various Scandinavian languages. His plays have been performed throughout Europe.
