Jörgen Pettersson (ice hockey)

Jörgen Pettersson ( born July 11, 1956 in Gothenburg ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player who played in his playing days from 1973 to 1991 among others for the St. Louis Blues, Hartford Whalers and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League.

Career

Jörgen Pettersson started his career as a hockey player in his home town in Västra Frölunda, for the first team, he was active from 1973 to 1980 - first in Division 1 and from the 1975/76 season in the Elitserien newly established. In the season 1979/80 was the runner- winger with his team and failed with Västra Frölunda until the playoff finals in the best- of-five series with 2:3 victories at Brynäs IF. On 8 May 1980 he signed a contract as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues, where he was from 1980 to 1985 starting players in the National Hockey League. During this period he also always one of the best points collectors of his team.

The 1985/86 season began at the Hartford Whalers Pettersson in the NHL, but already moved in December 1985 to its league rival Washington Capitals. Although he was able to convince in the capital and achieve a total of nine goals in 55 games and give 18 templates, but the links Sagittarius decided to return to his hometown club, Västra Frölunda, who was staying in the meantime in the meantime subprime Division 1. Internationally

For Sweden, Pettersson took part in the junior level at the Under-19 European Junior Championships in 1975 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 1976. In the U19 European Championship in 1975, he won the bronze medal with his team. In the senior level, he stood in 1981 -up from their country at the Canada Cup and the World Cup 1983.
