José Araquistáin

José Araquistain Arrieta ( born March 4, 1937 in Azkoitia ) is a former Spanish footballer, who participated with the national team of his native country at the World Cup 1962. He played on the position of the goalkeeper.

Career

Arrieta was born on March 4, 1937 in the northern Spanish Azkoitia in the Basque Country. He first played for CD Elgoibar before he was discovered by the talent of Real Sociedad. After a few years in the youth department of the Spanish traditional club he was inducted into the first team in 1956. After five years and 106 games for Sociedad the goalkeeper moved in 1961 continued to Real Madrid, where he, however, to Stammkeaper Vicente Train not passed, but still a member of the second generation of white Ballets led by Francisco Gento, one of the few who remained from the first generation the legendary Real team of the late fifties. In 1968 he moved then to Elche Elche CF to where he spent three years as an active Stammkeaper and then in 1971 moved on to CD Castellón and there ended his career. For the Spanish national football team José Araquistain completed 1960-1962 six caps, playing the World Cup in 1962 as a goalkeeper.
