José Gonzalvo

José Gonzalvo Falcón ( born January 16, 1920 in Mollet del Vallès, † May 31, 1978 in Barcelona), also known as Gonzalvo II or Josep Gonzalvo, was a Spanish football player and coach.

His older brother July Gonzalvo, known as Gonzalvo I played for Espanyol, while his younger brother Marià Gonzalvo, known as Gonzalvo III, also played for FC Barcelona and Spain.

Career

Josep Gonzalvo played while he completed his military service, for the Spanish second division side SD Ceuta. In 1943 he moved to CE Sabadell, where he played along with his younger brother in July. His league debut came on 26 September 1943 the 2:5 defeat against FC Sevilla. After just one season in Sabadell in 1944 he went to FC Barcelona. In his six years at Barcelona he played alongside Josep Escolà, Juan Velasco Zambudio, Cesar and Mariano Martín, won three Spanish championships and played a total of 146 league games for FC Barcelona. His professional career he finished after the season 1952/53, in which he was active for Real Zaragoza.

Between 1948 and 1950, denied Gonzalvo eight caps for Spain, and took along with his brother Marià at the 1950 World Cup, which finished fourth in Spain, in part. His first game for Spain, he completed on May 30, 1948 in a 2-1 against Ireland. In the period from 1942 to 1950 he also played five times for the Catalan football team.

In January 1963 he took over as coach of László Kubala at FC Barcelona. Although he coached Barça only 15 league games, he was the team on winning the 1963 Copa de SE El Generalísimo lead.
