José Higinio Gómez González

José González Gómez Higinio OFM ( born April 3, 1932 in Lalin, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain Province; † January 8, 2008 in Lugo, Lugo Province) was Roman Catholic bishop of Lugo.

Life

José González Gómez Higinio attended led by Franciscans schools in Herbón at Padrón and Puenteareas. In 1948, at the Congregation of the Franciscan ( OFM) and put on August 18, 1953 from his perpetual. He studied philosophy and theology in the Franciscan seminaries in Puenteareas and Santiago de Compostela, and then moral theology at the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome. On 24 June 1956 he received the priesthood in Rome and made in 1959 with a degree in canon law in 1960 with a degree in Roman Law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. In 1961, he was with a thesis on marriage law to the Doctor iuris utriusque (Latin for " Doctor of Laws " ) doctorate. After pastoral visits in Italy and Germany he taught from 1962 marriage and family law at several universities and was among other things, Rector of the Franciscan University in Santiago de Compostela as well as Provincial of the Franciscan province of Santiago. From 1976 to 1980 he was Apostolic Delegate for the Institute for Consecrated Life of the Archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela.

In 1980 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Lugo. The episcopal ordination donated to him on 28 June 1980, the then Apostolic Nuncio in Spain Luigi Dadaglio; Co-consecrators were Suquía Angel Goicoechea, former Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, and Carlos Amigo Vallejo, former Bishop of Tangier.
