Joseph Henry Joof

Joseph Henry Joof ( born October 25, 1960) is a lawyer and politician and writer in the West African nation of Gambia.

Life

After attending primary school 1974-1978 Joof went to the Gambia High School until 1980. Then studied from 1981 to 1985 Joof at Keele University in England and then to the Inns of Court School of Law. From 1985 to 1986, he trained further in The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. 1986 Joof went back to the bar to Gamba.

He was Vice President of the African Bar Association in 1992, in 1998 he became president of the same organization. This office he took to 2001. As President of the Gambia Bar Association, he served von 1998 to 2001.

The Lawyer Joof was appointed in September 2000 by the National Assembly as a member of the Judicial Service Commission. This Commission also examined the student demonstrations in April 2000, in which several participants were killed by the police.

Political life

On 30 January 2001 Joof was appointed to the Cabinet by President Jammeh as Attorney General and Minister of Justice (English attorney general and secretary of state for Justice ). He served in this position until September 2003 and then resigned.
