Joseph J. DioGuardi

Joseph J. DioGuardi ( born September 20, 1940 in the Bronx, New York City ) is an American Republican politician and former Member of the House of Representatives of the United States.

Born in New York, Joseph DioGuardi moved in 1957 with his parents and siblings in the Westchester County. He is a graduate of Fordham Preparatory School and graduated in 1962 with honors Fordham University. His parents were Arbëreshë, members of the Albanian minority in Italy. From 1963 to 1969 he served in the Army Reserve, after which he was to 1984 worked as an accountant in New York.

From 1985 to 1989 DioGuardi represented the 20th district of New York State election in Congress. In 1988 he stand for re- election, but lost to Democrat Nita Lowey who that could defend her seat ever since. As a result, DioGuardi applied repeatedly to return to the House of Representatives, but failed in 1992 when re- Nita Lowey and duel with 1994 and 1996 respectively in the primaries of his party. In 1996 he joined a chance as a candidate of the Conservative Party and the Right to Life Party.

In November 2010, DioGuardi joins the Senate election as opponents of the Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand for the Republicans.

DioGuardi is a human rights activist for the Balkan area. Since 1989 he undertook alone or with high-ranking U.S. politician 15 visits to the region. As founder and president of the " Albanian American Civic League," he is strongly committed to the Albanian population in Albania and in Kosovo. DioGuardi is since 1979 Knights of Malta. His daughter is the music producer and musician Kara DioGuardi.
