Joseph Nérette

Joseph C. Nérette ( born April 9, 1924 in Port-au -Prince, † April 29, 2007 in Port -au -Prince ) was a Haitian politician and current President of Haiti.

Biography

Study and career

Nérette holds a degree in Law and Economics at the Université d' État d' Haïti, which he completed in 1950 with the licensing. He then worked for ten years as a teacher of history, Spanish language and mathematics in Hinche in the department Centre. In 1961 he was briefly Deputy Government Commissioner of Hinche before he was from 1961 to 1971 a lecturer in mathematics at the Lycée Toussaint L' Ouverture in Hinche.

Between 1971 and 1978 he was then Deputy Government Commissioner at the Civil Court (Tribunal Civil) from Port -au -Prince before he was thereafter to 1988 Deputy Government Commissioner at the Court of Cassation ( Cour de Cassation ). 1988 finally he was appointed a judge of the Court of Cassation.

Acting President 1991-1992

After the overthrow of the elected president Jean -Bertrand Aristide, he was appointed on 8 October 1991 as Acting President of Haiti by the military junta under Lieutenant-General Raoul Cedras. In fact, the power remained largely with the military junta. Talks about a return of Aristide to Haiti, he made dependent on his continuance in office of the incumbent president. As such he remained until his replacement by Marc Bazin on 19 June 1992 in office.

After retiring from the presidency, he retired from government policy. After several years of disease from lung cancer, he died at the age of 83 years.
