Joseph S. Ammerman

Joseph Scofield Ammerman (* July 14, 1924 in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, † October 14, 1993 ) was an American politician. Between 1977 and 1979 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Ammerman attended until 1942 Curwensville High School. Between 1943 and 1946 he served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He then continued his education until 1950 at Dickinson College in Carlisle, where he studied law among others. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. He also went into the banking industry and was president of a bank. Between 1954 and 1961 he was district attorney in Clearfield County; 1961 to 1963, he served as United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In July 1952 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in part; 1970 to 1977 he was a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1976, Ammerman was the 23rd electoral district of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Albert W. Johnson on January 3, 1977. Since he has not been confirmed in 1978, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1979. Between 1986 and 1993, Ammerman judge at the Court of Appeal was in Clearfield County. He died on 14 October 1993 in his home town of Curwensville.
